The life of a woking girl

So started working this year, found a great job at Silhouette House, they are sportswear manufacturers and also house Ride magazine, Anatomic and Cyclone. The people I work with are awesome and we are encouraged to cycle which is perfect for me. So what do I do... I layout and design cycling gear, get to work those big Roland printers, help out with magazine stuff and adverts and even lend a helping hand at our events not to mention a bit of marketing advice here and there. So far so good... :-)

The Loeries

So in October I was lucky enough to be nominated for a Loerie and ventured off to Cape town for a weekend. It was an amazing two days of adventure, success and a moment in my life that would never be forgotten! Yes thats right, I won a bronze Loerie for my Urban Beef project, can you believe it, a Bronze LOERIE!!!!

Still cant believe it and its nearly three months later! wow! Go me :-)

graduated, now what to do?

So I have just finished my degree, got a first class pass, and now need a plan... to work and start my awesome career or do honors.....oh boy!

Honors is two years and seriously expensive, like seriously!!! I would love to do honors but thats just because of the over achiever in me. A real salary would be amazing, and besides I'm going to be 24 this year (screaming in my head)! I think its time to get a real job and start my life...

Yay!! (trying to seem positive about the prospect of becoming a grown up!)

So anybody got a job for me?? :-)

Antalis Awards

Antalis South Africa hosted the 12th prestigious Art of Design biannual Awards event at the Country Club Johannesburg on 19 August 2010 with an impressive exhibition of all 750 design pieces entered.

The Art of Design competition not only rewards Graphic Designers for originality and design excellence with a particular focus on the creative use of paper, but aims to inspire thinking, big ideas, paper usage and beautiful presentation. It is Antalis' way in which it supports growth of the South African Graphic Design industry; Antalis' has enthusiastically hosted this competition for an uninterrupted 24 years.

The 2010 student category aims to provide students with unique tools encouraging students to learn the art of typography by using the unique font glyphs provided by Joshua Darden from New York. In this category first place received a prize of R5,000, second place R3,000 and third place R2,000. This year's Student winner was Cally Tarin May from Greenside Design Centre.

Designers must be both conscious and unconscious at the same time. Clear thinking at the wrong moment can stifle inspiration and talent. - karl lagerfeld
